OVERCOMING VIOLENCE - What can I do for peace?

impulses for a culture of peace and non-violence were collected in a get together of people from various peace organizations of different cultural and religious backgrounds in Viennas "Albert Schweitzer House" on Nov. 29th 2008.

The UN declared 2001-2010 as a decade for a culture of peace and non-violence for the children of the world and the ecumenical council of churches pleaded for a decade of overcoming violence. This annual meeting* consisted of short impulses of different peace organizations on how to put peace into practice. For instance two school teachers talked about their experience in educating their pupils with an interreligious / intercultural approach, so living togehter in a peaceful way would be trained already at an early age...
After a time of communication and possibilities to get to know different projects more in details, people got together in Workshops. There it was possible to learn in an interactive way, what can be done for peace through media, through pilgrim groups, political theatre etc...

AUSTRIAN NATIONAL DAY

26th of October, 2008. More than 700.000 people came to celebrate the Austrian National Day together with the army and high rank politicians on the Heldenplatz (Heroes Plaza) in the Center of Vienna. The army pointed out, that they are there for the protection of peace and to help in cases of cathastrophes etc.
The true heroes are those that give their lives for others... not always "paying" with their own life, but putting the others need into focus, even more then their own needs...
